Requirements for taxi driving

Department of Transport and Main Roads

To drive a taxi you require a Drivers Authorisation, which is issued by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. To be granted Driver Authorisation, the following requirements must be met:-

  • Must have a satisfactory criminal history record.
  • A current Medical Certificate for Motor Vehicle Driving from your local GP.
  • A "successful" English Assessment letter. You will need to call Central TAFE QLD on 1300 278 233 to book however, Black & White Cabs can faciliate this test.
  • A confirmation of Training Statement (Partial Certificate II in Driving Operations - Taxicab) This will be issued to you approximately ten working days following the successful completion of our course.

Black & White Cabs

To drive a Black & White Cab, the following requirements must be met:-

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Successfully complete the Driver Training Course and hold a current Driving Authority for Taxi

          You should lodge your Driving Authority application with Queensland Transport before you attend our course, but you will need to supply the English Assessment 
         Letter (NMES) , Taxi Driver Confirmation of Training Letter and the Commercial Vehicle Driver's Health Assessment before the application will be approved.
