Council works with taxi drivers to create awareness
Brisbane City Council is working closely with the taxi drivers to help provide them with a safe work environment, while educating them about their obligations when parking in the city. From 25 June, Council will provide an additional 42 taxi rank spaces in the CBD for after-hours use.
Exisitng ranks in Edward and George street have been extended with the inclusion of a new 27-space rank in Elizabeth St, opposite the Myer Centre. This increase in rank space was the result of ongoing discussions with the taxi industry and an investigatoin carried out by Council.
Council officers have also been talking with taxi drivers at taxi ranks throughout the city to promote the safe use of ranks and reinforce parking laws associated with picking up and setting down passengers. In coming weeks, Council will also conduct information sessions at taxi depots to ensure taxi drivers have appropriate access to information.
Council is committed to ensuring taxi drivers have the information to comply with parking rules and regulations. To find out more about 'parking right' in Brisbane, visit www.brisbane.qld.gov.au or call Council on (07) 3403 8888.
