Important Information about carrying passengers who require the support of Assistance Animals

Legislation has been enacted which makes it an offence for a cab driver to refuse service to a person who is accompanied by an animal that has been trained to give assistance to that person because of a disability;

Any person who feels that they have been refused service in the circumstances described above may bring a complaint to Black & White Cabs whom will invoke its complaint procedures and investigate the matter.  A complaint can also be brought to external agencies such as Queensland Transport, the Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland, or the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission; and

In the event that Black & White Cabs determines that a complaint has been substantiated, this will result in the driver being automatically disaffiliated from the company and the matter will also be reported to Queensland Transport.

Various pieces of Legislation support the above comments.  These include the following:-

Transport Operations (Passenger Transport)
Regulation 2005 Part 9 s 129.

Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991
Section 225 (1)

Guide Dogs Act 1972
