Spring 2009

The Operators Group met at Kedron Wavell Services Club on Wednesday 18th August.  The Chairman, Per Dinesen reported on the continued success of our Rank Supervision program with 2914 cabs servicing our supervised ranks in June 2009 and  3109 cabs servicing the ranks in July.  The Pink Concerts at Boondall were a wonderful provider of work during these months; in fact 1,600 cabs serviced the 9 Pink concerts held at BEC.

The General Manager reported on the preliminary company response to the Taxi Driver Standards Reform by Queensland Transport, now known as Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR).  Unwarranted negative commentary on our current taxi drivers has sadly resulted in a problematic course of action by DTMR in an effort to fix a problem that doesn't exist.  The General Manager indicated that Service Levels to the travelling public had reached all-time highs over the past six months.  Whilst a small part of this improvement can be attributed to the Global Financial Crisis, the current availability of drivers and their capacity to work hard has undoubtedly delivered better Minimum Service Levels.  With a return to better economic conditions this will place the Brisbane Taxi Industry in a strong position to capture a stronger market share of the public transport spend.
