| History of Black & White Cabs |
The first taxi company in Brisbane lives on today within the Black & White Cabs family. Ascot Taxi Service was started in 1919 from the Ascot Garage in Racecourse Road, Ascot with one vehicle.
| By 1924 the fleet had grown to four vehicles (3 Willys Knights and 1 Overland).
Blue & White Taxis commenced operation in 1928 and operated from premises in George Street, Brisbane opposite the Hotel Cecil. It remained at that location until 1950 when it moved to a new building on the corner of Eagle Terrace and Quay Street at North Quay.
Black & White Cabs was founded in 1936. The office was situated in the Strand Building on the corner of Queen and Albert Streets in the city. The depot was in Turbot Street near the George Street intersection. In 1950, a depot and garage was established in Barry Parade, Fortitude Valley.
In 1956, Black & White Cabs and Blue & White Taxis entered into a joint venture, Taxi Services Limited, and purchased premises at 27 Quay Street, North Quay, which became the communications centre for both companies.
Black & White Cabs and Blue & White Cabs operated independent two-way radio dispatch from the same building until they merged in July 1983 to become B&W Cabs.
In 1994, Q Cabs (formerly Ascot Taxis) merged with B&W Cabs and both companies formed an alliance to operate as Black & White Cabs. The communications centre was moved to new premises in Fortitude Valley to accommodate a computer dispatch system.

Black & White Cabs has always been at the forefront of technology, and during 1997/1998, all vehicles in the fleet were equipped with Eftpos facilities for the convenience of passengers.
A program to replace the company's dispatch system with a Raywood Dispatcher III Automatic GPS Taxi Dispatch System was completed in June 2000. The Raywood Dispatch System is the most technologically advanced of its type.
| The system incorporates world's best practice taxi dispatch techniques such as satellite tracking and Computer/Telephone Integration.
To coincide with the installation of the new dispatch system, Black & White Cabs moved its corporate headquarters and communications centre from Fortitude Valley to a modern, purpose built building at Brisbane Airport.
