IBW Issue 98 - A Great Set of Numbers

Passengers, politicians and bureaucrats alike, hold the Queensland Taxi Industry in high regard. In fact, The Queensland Industry's good reputation is known right around the world.  It is unfortunate that certain media outlets tend to dramatise isolated incidents, painting the entire industry in a bad light.

Occasionally, a mistake is made. But consider the magnitude of the task at hand.  Throughout Queensland, the Taxi Industry carries approximately 80 million passengers annually, with Black & White Cabs carrying about 20 million of those passengers every year.  We operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week - a service not offered by many other industries.  We have an obligation to deliver at our best for all of that time - and we believe we do!

Black & White Cabs make an estimated 600,000 journeys (with passengers) to and from the Brisbane Domestic and International Terminals every year.  We make in excess of 28,000 journeys transporting Students with Disabilities to and from school.  Every month we transport thousands of Veterans to and from their medical appointments - Men and Women who served our country in conflicts all around the world.

In our Training Schools we see a broad range of students who come from diverse backgrounds - school teachers, the Armed Forces, professions and even international airline pilots.  We see students from a broad range of overseas nations - all contributing to our multi-cultural society.  It is encouraging to see a number of our student taxi drivers go onto to take out a taxi lease and then move onto ownership of a licence.

Black & White Cabs directly employs in excess of 130 people. Add to this our estimated 2500 active drivers, 750 taxi licence owners, 300 taxi operators - all contributing to the economic and social fabric of Brisbane, and what a contribution all of our people make to this great city.

Every month we carry thousands of passengers with disabilities - passengers who rely solely on the taxi industry for their transport needs; passengers who have great admiration for their taxi driver who often goes beyond the call of duty.

We have a policy of continual improvement across the whole Black & White Cabs organisation. Our focus is always on the service we provide to the travelling public.  Black & White Cabs plays a significant part in public transport in Brisbane and, unlike most other forms of public transport, at no cost to the taxpayer.  It is unfortunate that, at times, the media only focuses on the negative - we are better than that!
