Qld Taxi Fares to Rise

Taxi fares will rise throughout Queensland  by an average of 3.2% from 15 December 2007.

Queensland Transport's Director General, Bruce Wilson, said the increase was justified because of rises in operating costs.

"While Queensland Transport is committed to ensuring taxi fares are as affordable as possible, we have to be realistic about the economics of operating a viable taxi business,"he said

"This fare increase enables taxi drivers and owners to offset rising costs, but still ensures that Queensland taxi fares are comparable with those of other Australian States," Mr Wilson said.

There will be no increase in flag fall associated with the fare rise.

The main elements of the fare increase are:

- The distance fee will rise from $1.68 to $1.74 per km
- Waiting time fee will rise from 62c to 64c per minute
