Black & White Cabs – Lost Property on the Gold Coast

Within the Gold Coast Taxi depot are boxes on top of boxes of lost property. Items can range from mobile phones and wallets to baby carriers, high heeled shoes, and even walking sticks.

Hundreds of items per month are left in Gold Coast cabs after each journey. But what’s lost is gain with stories.
“Surprisingly, I see a few canes and walkers left in my cab,” One driver reported. “I’m always confused as to how they forget about it after they leave”.

Another Gold Coast cab driver said that he is still unsure as to why this item was left in his cab.
“It was after I picked up a passenger from the Gold Coast Airport. He looked like a rockstar with his guitar case on his back as he walked to my taxi.”

“After dropping him off at the Novotel at Surfers Paradise I bid farewell and drove off to find another fare. After I picked up another someone else, the passenger asked me if I played the guitar as they got into the cab. I realised then that the rockstar left his guitar behind!”

The “rockstar” (who’s name is George) did manage to get his guitar back after his desperate call asking us if he left it in the Gold Coast cab.

Most items do sit unclaimed within the Gold Coast depot. Some are reclaimed days or even hours after they are lost. Items that are left unclaimed after a while are then donated to local Gold Coast charities.
